Probably most of us have heard of the 4 “P’s” of marketing:
• Product
• Price
• Promotion
• Place
Today’s Marketers believe that there is much more than the traditional 4 “P’s” required for Killer Marketing, the kind of marketing that literally compels the prospect to buy.
The 4 “P’s” don’t leave much consideration for the environment and the community in which the marketing happens.
With our increasing connected world, Killer Marketing requires a more social feel and that is where we meet the 7 Characters of Killer Marketing.
1. Cognizance
2. Clarity
3. Confidence
4. Consistency
5. Congruence
6. Coherence
7. Community
Meet Cognizance, the first of the 7 Characters of Killer Marketing. Every business person needs Cognizance, or awareness, in their marketing so that they can take advantage of the white-hot moment.
Cognizance is that feel for what works and what doesn’t, and this character keeps us grounded in the present. Without this character, our marketing can easily get dated which means ignored.
But lest we become a mere prisoner of the trends, the second character, Clarity, pulls us back. Clarity articulates the “why” of our business and this character will assure that all of our marketing sounds and more importantly is true.
Clarity is how we connect with the “why” of our target market matching their values and desires with our business “why,” the reason for being of our business.
Supporting Clarity is Confidence, not cocky but assured that we are on-course. Confidence is the Character of Marketing that assures our prospect to believe what we are saying. Why would anyone trust a business that was not confident.
Surely it is difficult to believe a message that is changes at a whim, so Consistency helps keep our Marketing believable. Consistency elevates the “why” we are in business from what may be seen as a dubious choice to a deep belief.
The next two characters are the ones that help us put all of our marketing together. Congruence provides a sense of harmony throughout our marketing efforts assuring our market that what we are offering is suitable and fitting.
And then Coherence adds sense and reason to the proposition, yes it makes perfect sense for these marketing messages to represent our business.
Now the 7th Character of Killer Marketing, Community, wraps this all up in our connected world. We are not speaking to that world, sending out marketing messages. No we are part of the connected community and as an integral part of the market place we are having more of a conversation.
Community is the character that enables us to “keep it real.”
So as you develop your marketing keep these 7 characters in mind and let them guide you to create Killer Marketing that literally compels your prospects to buy from you.
